'빈 마음으로 왔다가 가득 찬 마음, 혹은 엉켜있던 마음이 잔잔한 물처럼' 된다는 표현, '심란하게 왔다가 텅 빈 마음으로 돌아간다'는 말은 모두 수묵정신과 맥을 같이하는 부분인 것이다. 수묵 작업이 전통적인 수묵에 의존하면서도 그 방법이 현대적이라는 것은 바로 그 독특한 추상방법에서 드러나고 있다. (중략) 수묵에서 현대화라고 할 때도, 그의 추상어법이 전통적인 의미의 기운생동을 의미하기 보다는 표현주의적인 맥락에 더욱 가깝다는 걸 의미한다.
The expressions: "Coming with emptiness in heart but returning with fullness, or tangled mind becoming like serene water," or "Coming with anxious mind but returning with total emptiness,"these expressions are all in collusion with the spirit of the black-and-white drawing.
